Therapy Mondays, Part II

Don't be surprised if there are parts 1 trough 900 since its currently such a big part of our lives.

Today was a REALLY good day at therapy.   It has been really hard to work with him at home because he has been so sick and is tired and not wanting to do much.   He has been very angry with tummy time and fighting hard against his normal stretches and such.   Needless to say, I wasn't sure how things would go today.

Here is a basic explanation of why we go to therapy. Think of the muscles on the sides of your neck as rubber bands.  The muscles on the left side of his neck are tight - like one of those big fat rubber bands you find on veggies.  The muscles on the right side of his neck are loose - like a warn out ponytail holder.  As you know, its easier to stretch out a tight rubber band than to make a loose one return to a usable shape.  So, each week the OT works with him to stretch the muscles on the left side of his neck and strengthen the muscles on the right side.

Thankfully, we had a great day.  He did so well and is catching up to where he should be with his motor skills very well.  He is holding his head very well in mid-line, but is still having trouble with the tilt.  His arms are getting so much stronger and he is even getting better at rolling.   (He has trouble rolling over since typically you move your head first and then your body follows.)

The OT said that he is handling one session a week really well, especially for his age.  She recommended that we start doing 2 sessions a week and hopefully he will start making more progress.   Keep praying that all goes well.  We know that God is the true physician and will heal Liam in his time.  Pray for patience for Nathan and I so that we don't try to rush anything or get discouraged.

Tummy Time
(How Liam spends most of his time actually)

Oh bummer on having to go twice a week, but yay for maybe making improvements quicker... esp before you go to Edwards.
